The crown jewel of Anza Borrego is Goat Canyon. It is a wooden rail bridge built over 100 years ago. In 2008, the bridge’s rail service was terminated. However, that meant that its primary focus now is foot traffic, lucky for us hikers. Goat Canyon Bridge is known as the world’s largest curved timber bridge. It is also known as a fairly challenging trail where you have to hike 19 miles to get to your destination.
10 am, We passed the last tunnel approximately four hours after we commenced our trek, eventually we encountered our objective. Goat Canyon was spread out in front of us, like a prized trophy. This is because Goat Canyon, adorned with its unique majestic beauty and its surrounding unspoiled nature scape, evoked nothing less than a spiritual awakening for me. It gives you pause, being grateful to just be alive and in its presence.
We then enjoyed taking time for the photoshoot that will be turned into a pictorial diary for this blog. The group prepared lunch and enjoyed breaking bread together. I believe that eating with others while on a common mission, helps bring people closer together. Bottom line, this is all about both our shared experience and comradery.
Afterwards, we returned to our everyday lives in the civilized world. My lesson learned, if you are becoming tired of too many emails, texts and or voice mails, please visit here for some respite. By becoming incommunicado, where even a phone call cannot be made, you will experience the desolate silence of this desert oasis. A solitude that where you will feel the physical, mental, and spiritual healing coming over you. Till our next adventure, Godspeed!
